Sometimes when you update your settings the password field gets filled in (firefox mostly) by the browser and updated with out you knowing it. There's a quick fix for this though. In the top level directory of the message board there is a file called settings_bak.php - this is a back up of your settings and connections . Just rename it to settings.php - delete the old one first though.

Make a back up in case it happens again
