Your business finally has a web site ... Now all you need to do is sit back and wait for clients - Right ? WRONG.

Web sites today are like Yellow pages - a good way for potential clients to find you if they are looking. The question is then how do you direct traffic to your site when people go looking ?

That depends - what type of site do you have ?

Informational only, e-commerce, or a combination of both ?

Well before you do anything you must first ensure that your site is submitted to all relevent Search Engines and that your web pages are properly constructed to show the information people might search for.

This is done in a section of the web page coding called Meta tags.

Within these tags you put bits of information related to your business.

Example:

You own a business in New York City that sells hats.

Types of Meta Tag information you might include:

NYC, New York, New York City, hats, baseball hats, helmets, winter, sports

Basically you would put all thoses type of words and phrases that you think people would use when searching for your type of company.

This does not ensure that you would be listed first with a search engine such as Google, that's another issue, but with out these types of Meta Tags you can be assured that you will never be listed at all.

Of course this is just a brief overview, you are welcomed to send us an email if you have questions on Meta Tags.
